The Valley of the Amaseno is an uncontamitated, lush, healthy area, yet not touched by the industrialization, the ideal to make products of the highest quality, a heritage of priceless potentialities from the culinary point of view and much more. Its barycentric position between the Tyrrhenian coast and the natural and architectural beauties of Ciociaria’s inland areas makes it a point of strength for the tourist development as well.

The buffalo is historically linked to this territory. The popular tradition is rich in tales and stories of rural life regarding an animal, today known and appreciated especially for its milk, from which the renowned mozzarella is traditionally made. The buffalo breeding is always carried out in respect of the animal, essential prerequisite for a correct management of the head of cattle and a proper quality of the productions.
The most particular and representative aspect of the rural buffalo sector of the Amaseno is the local populations’ ability to preserve and protect the surrounding lush, natural environment by perfectly combining it with the agricultural and agro-artisanal activities related to the buffalo breeding.

It is the buffalo, indeed, that ensures vitality and progress to local communities, that wisely influences lifestyle habits. Such a unique livestock resource represents a clear growth factor and an example of a rational and sustainable exploitation of the territory, an element ensuring the continuity of traditions and the development of new activities, being at the same time a source of attraction for visitors who love the good cuisine, agri-food products and natural beauties.

The territory, thanks to the commitment of breeders and health authorities during the past years, can be the proud holder of the title of “officially unscathed” from endemic buffalo diseases, like TBC, brucellosis, leukosis, as certified by Ministry of Health in March 2000.
